OK, Beatrice, Since your're the only one with enough cahones to respond, let me pass this one by you and ask for your thoughts. Scott Joplin composed and notated many works. Some of his works have been bastardized into bawdy house 'Rag' piano pounder slop unintended by and unbefitting the original composer. My late wife was concert trained piano and stopped wasting her time on Motzart once she read through Mr. Joplin's scores. She understood his syncopation leads as delicate questions that set up the next phrase...when played softly and precisely, they are like kisses needing a passionate response ..and when properly played his response phrases fit the bill. Scott Joplin was a master of his own art and no one since has scratched his comps.... they are truly beautilful classics in their own right when played properly. My point here is that Scott Joplin was not only a sensitive lyrical composer of pure tonal music but is woefully mis-represented in modern media if at all. If I'm gooseing for a list of your favorite composers.....the last few inches of text above should let you know I got lots yet unmentioned too.... OK, Bea. Everyone else seems to be cowering in there holes. Be thee not timid, name the rest of your favorite composers. Chas.
