As a wooly Trellis member, I've been wondering what the deep seated fav composers are of all the rest you. I'm not talking performers here. Composers only at this point. Anyway, Bernard Chinn picked up on my conservative nature but I perfer to call it " Taste with a trust in history and mind riveting composition". To wit : Here's a short list of my all time favorite music staff scribblers. In order to lean the list and insure brevity, I adopted the 'major body of work' criterion with only one or two possible exceptions....also, my spelling stinks so please forgive any glaring errors here. Beetoven, Mussorsky, Chopin, Satie, DeBussey, Ravel, Gershwin, Ellington, Richard Rodgers, Fritz Kresiler....? OK, there has been so much fabulous music scribed and recorded over the centuries I realize this is a very difficult topic to approach...and tho I didn't mention him, there's a few Bach comps on my top shelf... but... I'm very curious as to who the rest of ya'all really click with. Reluctant ?..If this helps to jog your willingness to send in your own list, please note I refused to mention a very famous guy whose name started with M. I did so because I can't stand most of his stuff. For me, no matter how mathematically clever it is, bore, bore, bore is the name of most of his over-worked twitter-pate tinkling..... Please now let us hear YOUR list of composers....but please hold your musician / performer list for a later date...that's an entirely different subject. Let's start with composers, swap some observations and see if the fur flies... Chas.
