A request for a randomly generated rhythm is made whenever a play Rhythm URL is submitted to the service that does not include a parameter list, like this one:

http://www.songtrellis.com/playRhythm

Clicking on the Play Rhythm link that appears in the first row of the linkbar that's included on most SongTrellis site pages launches this kind of random rhythm request.
