Luebbert's Music Forecast - 12-16-08

The thread that passes through these four performances is great drumming.

First, we hear Tony Williams with the Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, and Ron Carter play the "Freedom Jazz Dance".

Second, we hear Roy Haynes act as the drum substitute in the John Coltrane Quartet to play "Dear Old Stockholm".

Third, Jack DeJohnette, plays in 11/8, to accompany tenor saxophonist Joe Farrell and guitarist John McLaughlin, in McLaughlin's "Follow Your Heart". Earlier McLaughlin had recorded this song with the title "Arjen's Bag".

Finally, Elvin Jones plays a Niagara-like surging drum acompaniment with McCoy Tyner, Joe Henderson, and Ron Carter on McCoy Tyner's "Passion Dance".
