For chord progression arrangements, I enter a tune's chords into a new score by specifying their duration, root note and chord type using the SongTrellis Music Editor For Macintosh. I play the score once to allow the editor to calculate voicings for the chords. Next, I save a JPG image of the score. Then I copy this arrangement, and freeze the voicings in the score after I make the copy. I the copied version paste it 8 or 9 times to the end of the score and play the score once more. This causes the chord sequence to be repeated with the chord voicings varied in each repetition. The voicings recorded in the JPG image will match the notes played during the first repetition of the chord progression. Then I save this arrangement in MIDI format. The process to this point usually takes 5 minutes or so. I then submit the MIDI sequence to the SongTrellis website as a sound file, which prompted the site webserver to add music playing HTML to the web page that described the submitted sound, so that the musiic would play as a background sound when the page was loaded. For each of my score images, I submit each picture to the website as a picture, which caused the web server to always include picture displaying HTML when the page describing that picture were visited on the website. Finally, I would run a command which created links from the page which performs the MIDI sequence. By the time I'm done with this whole process 10 or 12 minutes will have elapsed. If I'm creating an example that is one or two bars in length, the time to produce the MIDI sequence and JPG image might be reduced to a minute or two, although the time to submit the MIDI sequence and JPG image will still take as much time as submitting a larger score, about 5 minutes more. blog comments powered by DisqusPlease join our community at SongTrellis.
