Besides his  melodic lyricism he was no slouch in the harmony department either.  His bridge on 'Have You Met Miss Jones' uses the same tri-tonic system Coltrane later developed into his 'Giant Steps' and 'Countdown' concept.  The only reference to an earlier use of this device I have heard of was by Franz Liszt.  If anyone knows of an earlier use I would appreciate hearing about it.

Cole Porter also came up with some very interesting chord progressions.
