Forgive my neophyte input, but I connect my own Yamaha PS-220 to my ancient laptop running Windows 95 thru the PC's parallel port using a intermediary device called PC-Flyer. Could such a device be beneficial in this scenario considering your PC (with Windows NT) doesn't have support for USB? For me it has worked out great and I've been successful in composing many MIDI songs as a result.
