That is a very interesting observation. I had never noticed that those tunes were such close relatives to one another. Both melodies are so strong and have such individual moods that they don't remind me of each other. My progression chart for Misty begins with a one bar pickup, a ii-V leading to the Eb major that actually marks bar 1 of the tune. In the A section only the 4th, 6th and 7th bars differ, with those bars being logical substitutions of one another. The B sections parallel each other pretty closely also. I used the "Coltrane Plays Standards" transcription of "Say It" as the basis for my chord progression arrangement. I do think it would be possible to infer the melody from that transcription. The transcription includes Coltrane's reading of the melody. He's embellishing quite a lot but the original melody is embedded in his rendition and is very recognizable. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything better in the fakebooks I've collected. There are responses to this message:
