Heard Booker Ervin? - playlist page on Lala.com Booker Ervin was a jazz tenor saxophonist from Texas. Like many other Texas tenormen, he had a hard, high, wailing sound on his horn. He was favored by bassist Charles Mingus and pianist Randy Weston and did long stints in their bands. He frequently recorded with a monstrously capable rhythm section: Jaki Byard, piano, Richard Davis, bass and Alan Dawson, drums. Their recordings with Ervin (The Blues Book, The Space Book, The Freedom Book) are excellent. blog comments powered by DisqusPlease join our community at SongTrellis.
