The Redwing Blackbird

I saw a redwing blackbird
This morning in the cattails by the pond.
It sang each raucous note
As though it was its first;
Sang as though it was feeling its heart burst.

A single redwing blackbird --
It flew across the pond and it was gone.
Through all the busy-ness
That happens through the day,
Thatís the place where my thoughts stayed.

If I could learn the secret;
  If I could just discover
   How to live free and easy,
 Treat the world like a lover.
If I could learn the secret,
  Iíd be free
   To sail away across the sundance sea.
