If you were singing it, you would probably perform it around 180 bpm. The melody is mostly whole notes, so it actually seems to move slowly at that tempo. When bebop players like Charlie Parker played Cherokee or his performances based on those changes ("Ko-Ko", "Warming Up A Riff") he liked to do it much faster. "Ko-Ko" was done around 310 bpm and "Warming Up A Riff", which was recorded a few minutes earlier, was done around 240 bpm. They really had to rev up the tempo to get the feeling of velocity that they desired out of the tune. There are responses to this message:
