This is an exercise written over the changes of Beautiful Love whose pitches are chosen from the scales used in exercise 1. Every so often rather than following choosing the next pitch from the next scale position ascending or descending, I skip from chord tone to chord tone or play a several notes arpeggio using only the chord tones. The rhythm used is a sequence of swung eighth notes resting every few bars. The intention here is to produce an easily played exercise that illustrates musically how to apply scale patterns and chord arpeggios in jazz improvising.

The notes in the score are color coded to indicate the harmonic function of a note with respect to the root of the accompanying chord.

Color code:

brown - minor 2nd       magenta - flatted 5th               grey-blue -major 7th
green  - major 2nd       red - perfect 5th
dark blue - minor 3rd   forest green - augmented 5th
light blue - major 3rd    tan- major 6th
