This was the first tune on the first album that Evans recorded after the death of Scott La Faro, the original bassist for Evans' trio. LaFaro's death depressed Evans so badly that he reportedly did not perform for a year afterwards. The changes are very original and sound like something that La Faro would've liked to play. Check out La Faro's "Gloria's Step" to hear one of La Faro's compositions.</P>  <P>The producer of the "Moonbeams" album was Orrin Keepnews. The title of the tune is actually an anagram on Keepnews' name.</P>  <P> </P>
